We believe in human dignity

In a world where it seems no-one agrees on anything, a world where politics divides, religion divides, race and even cultural borders seem to divide, dignity is something that everyone can agree on.

Dear students
The Global Dignity Day is celebrated around the world every year in October. The idea behind celebrating this is to encourage and recognize the right of every human being to live their life with dignity and respect.
Every human being regardless of race, culture or social background has the right to protect his or her dignity. This blogpost has been created for your contributions regarding the Global Dignity Day. Feel free to share your poems, essays, personal experiences and journals here for everyone to read.

  1. DIGNITY
Very few people understand the true meaning of dignity, and even fewer realize the impact it has on our lives. For some people dignity is respect .The definition of dignity is actually the quality of being worthy, honored or esteemed. It means having pride and respect in yourself. It is being able to stand tall and strong .It means a way of self-control and seriousness.
The age, financial status, job, clothes, appearance, and language should not determine the respect and dignity with which a person is treated.
Many times I have seen parents deciding what their children will have at restaurants .The child’s choice should be respected and he should be given a chance to decide for himself .I have also seen decisions for clothes ,toys ,etc, being made without considering like dislikes of children. I find it very painful when I see people treating their servants, labors etc badly. They are also humans. They should be treated with dignity as they are working hard to earn a living. Their work makes our living easier. I always make it a point to talk respectfully with our driver and other workers.
We are very quick to judge people by their clothes and looks.
On the road and in the market I see beggars and eunuch being ill-treated. They are also humans. They are not in that position by their own choice .We should treat them with dignity.
We should take pride in who we are and what we do. Walking, talking and presenting ourselves to others with dignity, will command dignity for us from others as well.
I once read a story, which had the moral, ‘No matter how difficult things can sometimes be in life, no one can take away your dignity’

    My experience about dignity

Dignity is the quality or state of being worthy, honoured or esteem. We should show dignity towards everyone including our neighbourhood, poor people on roads and people who work in offices or in our homes. Greeting people who pass by us or helping them in daily chores are included in one of the practices that we have forgotten.
We should show dignity to people around us and then we will also get respect in return. One of my experience for showing dignity around me was that me and my father were in our village ( Dera Ghazi Khan), we were going towards a swimming club for swimming while I saw a man. I saw that he was sweating badly and his face was all red because of hot weather. We passed by while I decided to tell my father to dive that man a ride. I told my father about the man we just passed by and so he reversed the car and he sat in our car. He greeted us politely. He had a beard, was fair in complexion and was wearing a (Shalwar kameez). He asked us if we had any water but we didn’t have any so we stopped by a tuck shop nearby and bought him water. After he drank water we asked him who he was, where had he been going to and why was he sweating so badly? He told us that he is from (Karak) (Khyber Pakhtun Khwa). He worked in (Karak) as a tailor and was going towards (Mastung) (Balouchistan). He was going to preach Islam and to make people living over there understand the teaching of Islam. He could find a taxi or a public transport after he was dropped at Lahore. He was walking since 3 hours without food and water. He had one wife and three kids. He also told us about some Islamic teachings that we have forgotten. We reached to the turn towards the road to the swimming club and told him that we have to go this way. We gave him three thousand rupees from which during his journey towards his destination he could pay for the transport, food, and water. He had to travel at least two thousand kilometres to reach his destination. This was an example of showing dignity around us from my life.
Allah has made us all equal. It’s just that he has given some people more facilities and the rest some less facilities. We should not misbehave with people who are poor or are on a lower position than you because we have the same religion and are part of one nation so we should show dignity and respect to everyone around us.

  4. Dignity Experiences
    - Dignity is not only the word. Dignity to me means not only possessing strong morals that help society to prosper and improve, but following though on them. Every human being has the basic right of respect both of himself and by his fellow man. Dignity involves the respect among the different people of any society.
    - There are many moments in my life of Dignity. Now I will share some of them. Yesterday, I was going to the market there I saw my neighbor’s maid carrying water coolers filled with water. I asked her if I could help her but then she gave me one water cooler. I took that cooler to her house.
    - One day, it was cold outside my house because it was winter season. I went to the market. There I saw an old man who was shivering and was hungry. I bought a bowl of soup and gave it to him. He got so glad and gave me so many prayers. That was the best feeling that I got from helping that old man.
    - There is one moment in my life that I can never forget. One day, wedding was going on. After having the buffet, the guests went into the house and I was sitting outside the house in the tent. I saw an old man who was staring at me and he looked very hungry. I took a plate and filled it with every single food item that was made and gave it to him. I gave him every single rupees that was in my pocket. He gave me so many prayers. At that time I realized that the greatest feeling we get is when we help others and that is the real meaning of dignity. That day I felt proud of myself and I realized that real honor and respect we get is from helping others which is dignity.

  5. MY DIGNITY EXPERIENCE
‘Finally some relaxation,’ I said as I sat back on my chair and relaxed. It was a sunny morning in mid-winters. My mid-year exams were finished and it was the first day of winter holidays. I was sitting on the balcony enjoying the scenic views of Margalla Hills when I heard someone shout.
Immediately, I was on my feet and on the edge of the balcony. When I looked down, I saw a man, who looked like an over boiled cauliflower, scolding a starved-looking woman and her child. To hear their conversation, I leaned dangerously over the railings. ‘Do you guys have to come every day!?’ Shouted the man, ‘Why don’t you get a job or do something to earn a living!?’ ‘I do work in many homes’, answered the woman weakly. ‘But my child is suffering from pneumonia and I need more money for his treatment.’ ‘Well then, ask somebody else!!!’ With that he slammed his gate.
Then the woman knocked other people’s gates and asked for help. Some listened to her but did nothing, some didn’t even answer while others treated her cruelly.
By the desperate look on her face, I took pity on her and ran inside my house quickly. I took out some money from my pocket money. I also went to my cupboard to get some sweaters which did not fit me anymore. I dusted them off and neatly packed them in a box.
At that moment, the door bell rang. I ran towards the door to answer it. When I opened it, a woman stood there holding a child’s hand. The child was just skin and bones! I wondered how the child was tolerating this wretched cold in his T-shirt! However, I quickly put my hands out to offer her the things. Her eyes sparkled at the things as she took them gratefully. ‘Bless you,’ were the final words of the woman as they both marched forward.
I hadn’t been proud of myself at any moment other than this. I was happy as well as thankful to God. I also vowed to help anyone in need in the future.

  6. My Dignity Experience
Last winter on a very cold day, I went outside to buy some things for myself. When I got to the market I saw two childern sitting in the corner, they were very thin and looked hungry. At first I passed them but then thought of me in their place. I quickly changed my mind and bought them some food and some soup. Instead of buying stuff for myself I spent money on them, but their prayers and smiles made up for it.
I was very proud happy for what I did.

  7. Global dignity day (about dignity and my personal opinion)hisham 8-yellow
each citizen living in this world has their rights and deserves respect. Dignity means the state or quality of being worthy of honour and respect, or human rights.
In my opinion, every citizen in this world should celebrate this day to make themselves and others realise their rights and those of others. So give respect to the rights and freedom of others and get respect from others. Every person, no matter which economic class they belong to, deserves respect if they are doing honest work.

So my dear readers and friends, I would like to request you to be respectful towards everyone, even if they are your maid, driver, cleaner or watchman or the junior staff of the school. They are humans like us and have as much rights as citizens of this world as we do; they deserve all the facilities of health, education, security and income as we and others do.

  8. Dignity:-

Dignity is often described as to "giving respect to all. Whether a man or a woman, wealthy or poor, laborer or factory owner. Allah has made us all, thus each individual deserves equal respect. In our society, respect and ho our are portrayed only to be given to influential people while the lower staff is continuously laid disrespect and anger upon. We must realize that everyone plays an equal role to develop and build the society. They deserve equal dignity and are worthy of all blessings we possess. Our society has classified people into classes which produces a sense of inferiority in them, demotivated and morally descends them. As a result, people of lower ranks are forced to remain on a much disrespected rank since the so-called superior people treat them with utmost disrespect. They depict their authority and control over them which consequently degrades the poor people.
So to spread the awareness of human rights and equality for everyone, every year in October, Global Dignity is celebrated all over the world. As a well-aware citizen of the world, it is first priority to not subject anyone to discrimination regardless of their occupation, race, religion or culture but work with dignity as it is deserved by all.

  9. ‘In a world where it seems no one agrees on anything, a world where politics divide, religion divides, races and political borders divide, dignity is something that everyone can agree on.’
We should believe in two things, dignity and honour. Dignity means to value ourselves and value others. Therefore, we should work together for a dignified world. The symbol of global dignity signifies that everyone is equal in this world and there is no discrimination of colour, caste and creed.
Global dignity day is commemorated to make people realise and create awareness among the people about their rights which generally mean human rights. This essentially means that all the people in this world have the liberty to excersise their rights and fight for them. The Social and Economic inequalities affect our lives mainly due to the factors including caste system, creed poverty and imbalances etc. This social injustice is also responsible for inequalities in our society.
This day thus should be celebrated by every individual in this world to know the value of themselves and their rights in the community. The concept of Global Dignity day is also in-line with the principles of our religion Islam, which had laid the foundation of human dignity and rights based on equity and justice more than fourteen hundred years ago.
We are indeed blessed as we belong to a religion which promotes dignity of all human beings irrespective of age, gender, race or religion.
Therefore this day provides us an opportunity to advocate and promote the concept of dignity and human rights and should therefore be celebrated with utmost zeal and enthusiasm in the month of October. This will help in propagation of the message among all the segments of society.

  16. Dignity is the state or quality of being worthy of honour and respect. It is the right of anyone who regards others' dignity and self-esteem like his or her own. Such people become lustrous examples of leading a dignified life who spent many a day ensuring that others don’t lose the will to live. No one can make that person lose his or her dignity other than the person himself. Nelson Mandela once said:
“Any man or institution that tries to rob me of my dignity will lose.”
Respecting the dignity of others is very deeply encouraged by our religion Islam. Prominent leaders of the past have shown great dignity towards their people.

‘Global Dignity Day’ is an initiative dedicated to shedding some light on the fact that everyone has a right to live and lead a dignified life and the responsibility to respect the dignity of others without any disregard. Every year thousands of people from schools and institutions around the world volunteer to raise public awareness among those people who don’t know the true meaning of dignity and to those people who don’t have a voice of their own. These volunteers act as guides in succouring these people. The thing that “separates” us from them is because there may be a social hierarchy in which they might be considered inferior be other residents of their society as they may be a minority or a poverty stricken household that struggles to survive. As a result they may become subject to racism, stress and rejection from society and neglect from responsible authorities.

Neutralizing such inequalities is one the primary motives for celebrating this day which was first celebrated in 2008.The symbol for global dignity, the two hearts joined together symbolizes how we and our dignities interdepend with the lives and dignities of others so let us too spread awareness among our friends and families to care for everyone whether it is a billionaire or beggar in rags regardless of race, caste or creed in all the sections of our society and beyond. I hope that you have learnt something from this passage.
